Google Tag Manager
Before You Begin
Make sure you have the following prerequisites in place before you begin:
Access to Google Tag Manager with the ability to create tags and publish changes.
The Tag Mapping Document provided by Clario (shows how to map your variables into each Clario tag).
Ample time; this process will take about an hour.
Feeling Stuck?
If you need assistance getting Clario's tags in place, please reach out to your Clario Customer Success representative. Our support team will be happy to assist you in getting everything in place.
Step 1: Confirm Load Rule Coverage
Clario's behavioral tags depend on being triggered at the appropriate time. Verify that you have load rules to cover the following cases:
page view
search
cart add
cart remove
transaction (purchase)
If you are missing coverage for any of these cases, contact your Clario Customer Success representative and they can assist
Step 2: Create Tags
Creating tags follows the same general process.
Within Google Tag Manager, navigate to Tags and click New.
Name your tag (see table below for details).
Set tag configuration: use Custom HTML when selecting the tag type. Paste the tag code provided by Clario corresponding to the event you are creating a tag for.
Set tag trigger (see table below for details).
A properly configured page view tag looks like this:
Tag Name | Tag Type | Firing Triggers |
---|---|---|
Clario - Page view | Custom HTML | All Pages - Page View |
Clario - Search | Custom HTML | Search |
Clario - Add cart | Custom HTML | Add to cart |
Clario - Remove cart | Custom HTML | Remove from cart |
Clario - Purchase | Custom HTML | Purchase |
See the Clario Tag Mapping Document provided by Customer Success for the trigger specific for your environment.
Step 3: Test
Provide your Clario Customer Success representative with a preview link once the tags are available in your environment for testing.
Click More Actions at the top of the Tag Assistant debug interface and select Share.
In the Share debug session dialog, enter your target website domain and the tags to debug.
Copy the resulting preview URL from the indicated box.
Paste the copied preview URL into an electronic message and send it to your Clario Customer Success representative. The preview URL lets the user connect to your site in preview mode and to view the Tag Assistant debug interface.
You can also share the current or older versions of a container from your workspace:
In the top navigation of your workspace, click Versions.
Find the version you would like to share, click More Actions and select Share Preview.
In the Share Preview dialog, enter your target website domain (e.g. https://example.com/.)
Copy the resulting preview URL from the indicated box.
Paste the copied preview URL into an electronic message and send it to your Clario Customer Success representative. The preview URL lets the user connect to your site in preview mode and to view the Tag Assistant debug interface.
